DIY AI TRAINING

Due to high demand, we are currently offering DIY AI courses every month. Our trained staff of embryo transfer  technicians and veterinarians provides an informative and hands-on approach to the DIY AI training in Ireland. Our staff deliver a five day in-depth and practical training course involving one theory day and four days of practical Artificial Insemination.

Day 1, Theory Day: Areas that will be covered:

  • Anatomy of the female reproductive tract.
  • Understanding and treating fertility issues.
  • Understanding the oestrous cycle.
  • Semen collection, processing and freezing.
  • Handling storing and transport of semen.
  • Regulations controlling the practices of AI.
  • Sanitations and prevention of disease spread.
  • Relevant aspect of animal welfare.

Days 2 -5, Practical Days: Areas that will be covered:

  • Practical Artificial Insemination.
  • Use of reproductive tract.
  • Methods of treating fertility issues.

Ultrasound Scanning Courses

We offer a comprehensive, practical ultrasound scanning course over twelve days. The minimum requirement for commencing our Ultrasound Scanning Course is having previously completed a DIY AI training course.  Our course includes training in the following areas;

  • Autonomy of the female reproductive tract.Scanning Training
  • Understanding and treating fertility issues.
  • Palpitation of the cow’s reproductive organs.
  • Practical application and use of ultrasound scanner.
  • Identifying reproductive issues.
  • How to accurately date pregnancies

Bovine Hoof Trimming, Lameness and Mobility Workshop

Small groups for individual tuition (10-12 trainees maximum so book early)

OBJECTIVES

  • Experience on How to Practically and Safely  Perform Preventative Hoof Trimming (5 step Dutch Method)
  • Identify Common Lameness Conditions and Treatmeants
  • Apply Shoes or Blocks
  • Understand the Causes and Prevention Methods of Lameness and  the Equipment Requirements for Hoof Work
  •  Introduction to Locomotion/Mobility Scoring.
  • This will be Delivered Through a Theory and Practical ‘Hands On’ Session.

 

 

The course will be delivered by Francis Cosgrave MVB Cert DHH. Francis spent 6 years in veterinary practice in Cork and Kilkenny before spending 3 years working with an animal health company providing technical training to farmers and vets on preventative herd health on large herds based mainly in the UK. Francis also runs a dairy farm in partnership with his father in Co. Laois.

  • Course Structure Includes Equipment Needs, Maintance and Applying Shoes or Blocks

  • The Dutch Method
  •  Different Type Crushes Used

 

Other Information

  • The 4 day course is a recognised route to the diploma. After attending the initial course experience is gained in the field
  • Following this experience it is recommended that you attend a Check day with The Irish Hoof Trimmers Association where Peter will review your technique
  • After a further spell of foot trimming you can return to take the Diploma examination
  • The Diploma is recognised as a mark of quality and high standard and is accepted by the ICFTA and NACFT
  • We run the course in a relaxed manner ensuring that cattle foot care is a pleasure to learn
